a self build survey and some TV news

As you may already know self build (well house building of all sorts) is in the news at the moment with the Government trying to increase the number of houses being built, to shape the type of houses we build, to 'ease' and simplify the planning process and generally give Local Parish Councils more say.
If you are interested in self building (a Border Oak house of course) you may like to fill in the quick survey on the Homebuilding & Renovating website http://www.homebuilding.co.uk/govtsurvey

And on another note I have finally got the dates for the BBC1 'To Build or Not to Build' TV series. It starts on the 5th Sept at 11am on BBC (and on iPlayer thereafter) and the Border Oak houses feature on the 5th, 9th, 16th and the 20th.

This beautiful home features in the first episode on 5th September and also in Ideal Home magazine ( I think it is out at the end of September.......I will let you know when I find out.)

  5. Hi Lynne - me too! I think I have been told the wrong month or maybe they mean the November issue which is out in Sept?If the October issue is out in August does that mean the next issue will be out in Sept/October but will in fact be November? Umm, confusing. I will find out and let you know. But this house is DEFINITELY on TV (BBC1 ) on 5th of September at 11 am.........

Sarah - thank you so much for stalking. All stalkers are most welcome here (I am prone to a bit of blog stalking myself). I am so glad you enjoyed browsing through and hope you will stick with us! Welcome x

  6. Please, please, pleeeeease will you let me know what colour the kitchen cabinets are painted in the Eardisley Border Oak cottage? I am absolutely in love with the colour. It's simply beautiful.

  7. Sarah - It is a RAL reference but the closest I can find would be F &B Pigeon. In real life it is slightly more mossy - a really lovely colour.
Thank you everyone for your comments and so pleased to have new and old readers - makes it all worth it x

  8. Hi, I've been having a nosey (again) at the website and just love all the interior pictures (as well as the houses themselves), will your new brochure feature images of inside the homes? As much as I love looking at blogs and websites you can't beat looking at pictures in your hand, does that make sense :-) if not prehaps I've given you a new challenge, as if you don't have enough, a book on Border Oak homes and interiors. Claire x

  9. HI Clare
The new website has hundreds of new images (but I think I am another week or so from going partially live with it yet -too many gliches!) inc lots of interiors and flip books.
I know what you mean about having something in your hand esp for people like me who cut images out and make mood boards!! But yes a very good idea to use more interiors in brochures so I will certainly bear that in mind. Lots of the newer brochures focus a bit more on interiors but I now have so many photos I am sure I could make a book. I did once pitch the 'green oak frame' interior book idea to a publisher but she thought it might be a bit niche to sell well! She didn't think it would have a wide enough market although she had already heard about Border Oak and followed our website and new friends who were hoping to build with us!
We do print books internally of each project we photograph (to give to the owners as a keep sake) - they were so popular at the show that 4 were stolen!! but the cost of them makes it impossible to sell (without printing thousands).

I would love to do a book one day so maybe I should investigate this more - I thought I could have sections on decorating an oak frame, creating atmospheres, creating mood boards etc. As well as an introduction to the history of oak framing. You probably have other suggestions so if I find out more maybe I will run my thoughts past you. right better crack on with this website!
ps we also have a magazine coming out (a Border Oak produced mag) with more of a lifestyle/interiors angle. I just need to find the time to finish it!

  10. Is that a Pearmain, Merry? The interiors are gorgeous - got to love oak beams and pastel colours! Blends English and French country chic beautifully.

  11. What style is this lovely cottage? I love the kitchen. I'm confused whether it's English or French?
